The Samahan ng mga Papetir ng Pilipinas (SPP), composed of Mr. Danilo Liwanag, the artistic director, Mr. Juancho “Wanlu” Lunaria, ventriloquist and Mr. Sam Fuentes, Puppeter, represented the Philippines at the 3rd International Marionette Festival held in Hanoi, Vietnam from September 4 to 9, 2012.
The event was organized under the auspices of the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. About 11 countries participated on the said event, including, Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia, The Philippines, Thailand, Egypt, Israel, Turkey, China, Taiwan and Vietnam.
The performance of the Philippine Puppetry Group really awakes the soul of the people due to the lessons behind it, which bring the country into the world-class performance.
The play entitled “Paraiso”, it was interpreted through puppetry art focusing on the main problems that every Filipino facing today, like the needs on how to clean every garbage on the streets of Manila as well as the government; justice system, lifestyles and Environmental Preservation not only for you nor for me but for the future generations. We aim for a place called “Paraiso”. This is the message of the play of Mr. Liwanag and company.
As the results go on Philippines got the Silver Medal, it makes Filipinos be proud of. We are not only popular in the field of sports or in a beauty pageant, but also in artistic puppetry.
This year’s performances of the Filipino puppet group in Vietnam were held at the Vietnam National Puppet Theater, Hong Ha Theater and the Kinder Park-West Lake Theme Park. A large number of Vietnamese and foreigners attended the performances of the Samahan ng mga Papetir ng Pilipinas.
Philippine ambassador to Vietnam, Jerril Santos encourage the group to include in their future visits some performance for the Filipino communities in Vietnam.
