TWO FILIPINO PUPPETRY GROUPS PERFORM IN HANOI VIETNAM
28 February 2008 – Philippine Ambassador to Vietnam Laura Q. del Rosario reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that two Filipino puppetry groups – the ANINO Shadow Play Collective and TALI GALAW, performed in Hanoi during the 1st International Marionette Festival on 16-23 February 2008. The festival was organized by the Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam. Seventeen puppetry groups from 11 countries participated in the event.
TALI GALAW, which uses string puppets, performed the Tinikling, Singkil, Igorot Dance and Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”. Tali Galaw was established in 1995 by Mr. Danilo Liwanag, Chairman of the Puppeteers Association of the Philippines. Tali Galaw is the first and only marionette theater group in the Philippines, and it plays and promote Philippine history, Culture, Folktale, Environmental protection and Good moral values.
A large number of Vietnamese and foreign audience attended the performances of these Filipino groups during the marionette festival. The countries which participated in the festival includes Belgium, Brazil, China, Egypt, Indonesia, Israel, Philippines, Singapore, Sweden, Thailand and Vietnam.
