Dapitan City, ZaNorte – More than 15,000 athletes, delegation officials and guests gathered during the closing ceremony of 2011 Palarong Pambansa last May 14 at the Jose Rizal Memorial State University here. One of the special participant is the Hornbill mascot made by Roppets Edutainment Production inc. the official mascot of the 2011 Palarong Pambansa. The committee also gave souvenirs of Hornbill stuff toy to the players, participants, organizers and judges. These stuff toys are also made by Roppets.
In his speech, Department of Education Region IX director Walter O. Albos congratulated the Shrine City for successfully hosting the annual national multi-sports event in celebration of the 150th birth anniversary of the Philippine’s national hero Dr. Jose P. Rizal. He said words are not enough to express gratitude to all the people who have made the week-long sports event possible.
President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III, who went on an official travel outside the country, extended his message saying “your theme, “Enshrining School Sports in the National Shrine serves to highlight your humble beginnings alongside the progress you have since made in your respective disciplines.”
Students from the 17 athletic delegations who have energetically participated in the seventeen events held in the city, Dipolog City and the Municipalities of Piñan and Polanco were given inspirational messages from TV personality, PBA analyst-commentator and master of ceremonies Patricia Hizon, as well as by motivational speaker and sports personality BJ Manalo.
Another TV personality gracing the closing of the nationwide event was the Pop Star Princess Sarah Geronimo who sang at the main grandstand her greatest hits to the delegates and visitors in a musical extravaganza with the special participation of the all-girl-group Mocca Girls which was followed by the spectacular fireworks display over the JRMSU campus.
Among the officials attending the closing program were DepED Secretary Armin A. Luistro, Assistant Secretary Tonisito M.C. Umali, Abdurajik M. Kanni, Region IX PESS chief, ZaNorte 1st district Representative Seth Frederick P. Jalosjos, Governor Rolando E. Yebes, Dapitan City Mayor Dominador “Jun” G. Jalosjos Jr. and the Palarong Pambansa Executive Committee chairman and former Representative Romeo “Nonong” G. Jalosjos.
Meanwhile, National Capital Region Athletic Association (NCRAA) bagged student athletes as the Over-All Champion accumulating a grand total of 572.7 points over Western Visayas, Calabarzon and Central Visayas.
Mayor Dominador Jalosjos Jr. and former Congressman Nonong Jalosjos thanked Bro. Armin Luistro, DepEd undersectaries, assistant secretaries, regional directors, superintendents, heads of public and private elementary and secondary schools in the whole province of ZaNorte and the good people of Dapitan for their unwavering commitment in making the 2011 Palarong Pambansa in the city a huge success.
