Seventeen companies under the leadership of Philippine’s top businessman Manny V. Pangilinan converged from March 25 to March 27 at the vast grounds of Meralco’s main headquarters in Pasig City for a weekend of camaraderie and friendly competition at the 2nd MVP Olympics. Roppets Edutainment Production Inc. was chosen to fabricate their mascot and stuff toys for souvenirs. Another great mascot was added to our collection.
Following huge success last year, the 2011 MVP Olympics opened in a grand Mardi Gras parade showcasing the contingents of the 17 participating companies going toe-to-toe in the various competitive games that included basketball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, chess, billiards, and track and field.
Aside from the main sporting events, also lined up were fun parlor games, a talent show and cheering competition.
The MVP Olympics is a signature event that participating companies eagerly await, a clash of skills that aims to bring out the best in the participants at the same time nurturing strong team spirit through healthy competition. Chairman of this year’s MVP Cup is Meralco Senior Vice President Alfredo S. Palilio.
Declared overall champion was Maynilad, followed by PLDT at second place and Meralco at third place. Other participating companies were Smart Communications, Metro Pacific Investments Corp., Riverside Hospital, Makati Medical Center, Cardinal Santos Hospital, e-PLDT, Davao General Hospital, Lourdes Hospital, Team Tollways (MPTC/MPTDC/MNTC/TMC), Burger King, Outback, Media quest/TV5, SPI Global Phils. and Philex Mining.
Through the games, MVP, himself a shining embodiment of excellence and victory in business, aims to extend his winning values to his family of companies.
Winning, of course, is not all there is to it. More than the competition, the Olympics is also an opportunity to unite an interestingly diverse group of companies. It consolidates organizational cultures and ethics of MVP companies and makes them breathe a common corporate spirit and values. It reinforces the confidence of employees that they are a part of one culture- a culture of champions under the leadership of one of the pillars of Philippine business and patron of sports, Manny V. Pangilinan. The value MVP places on sports is also manifested through the MVP Sports Foundation launched early this year. The foundation aims to promote and develop sports in the country, particularly in eight disciplines that include basketball, boxing, cycling, taekwondo, badminton, tennis, running and football.
With the annual games serving as the stage, MVP companies are bonded together towards a common goal to achieve more while working as one. As the 2011 MVP Olympics slogan goes, “Samahang Matibay, Mas Matagumpay!”
